Laser hair removal is the most effective method of permanently reducing unwanted hair, and is faster and less painful than other techniques. Laser hair removal will treat dark, course hair on any part of the body, and reduces problems with painful, unattractive ingrown hairs both in men and women.

The laser we use can treat any skin type. Other lasers and IPL equipment is limited only to lighter skin types. Call us and book a initial consultation and as part of the assessment we will perform a test patch treatment that will allow you to see for yourself how the laser will perform.

How Does The Laser Achieve Permanent Hair Reduction?

Laser hair removal uses a highly concentrated light source that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicles, and the temperature in the follicle rises enough to destroy the follicle structure and prevent regrowth.

Hair grows in cycles, and the most effective treatment occurs within the hair’s active growth phase. With only 20-30% of hairs in any area being in the active growth phase at one time, so several treatments are necessary.  The number of treatments you will require is determined by hair density, hair colour, hair texture and certain medical conditions that we assess during your initial consultation.

Once you begin the laser treatments using depilatory wax or plucking is not a good idea because pulling the hair from the follicle works against the principles of laser removal. However you can use other methods like shaving or depilatory creams to achieve a hair-free appearance between laser treatments.

How does it work?

Lasers remove unwanted hair based on the principle of selective photothermolysis. The light penetrates through the skin and is selectively absorbed in the pigment (melanin) in the hair shaft and is heated. This energy causes the temperature in the hair follicle to rise to a sufficiently high level to destroy the structure and prevent regrowth.

Because the energy is selectively absorbed by the hair that contains higher concentrations of melanin the surrounding skin does not heat up to the same level and the treatment is more comfortable.
